Competition, Sideline and Flag Team Overview
Seneca Valley Youth Cheer offers several cheer options to support athletes at every stage of their development. Whether a child is brand‑new to the sport or ready for a more competitive experience, families can choose the program that best fits their athlete’s age, interests, and commitment level.
Flag Cheer (Grades K–2)
Flag Cheer is designed as an introduction to cheerleading for our youngest athletes in kindergarten through 2nd grade. This squad focuses on building confidence, learning basic motions, and having fun in a supportive environment. The commitment level is lighter than our older squads, with two one‑hour practices per week and participation in Saturday flag football games. Flag Cheer is a great way for new cheerleaders to explore the sport while developing teamwork and foundational skills.
Sideline Cheer (Grades 1–7)
Sideline Cheer offers a spirited game‑day experience for athletes who want to cheer throughout the football season. Cheerleaders are assigned to a specific football team and will cheer at all of that team’s games each week. Sideline cheer teams practice two nights per week during the school year, with each practice lasting two hours. This option is ideal for athletes who enjoy performing on the sidelines and at halftime, supporting their team, and being part of a high‑energy, community‑focused squad.
Competition Cheer (Grades 1–6)
Competition Cheer is designed for athletes seeking a more intensive and performance‑driven cheer experience. In addition to cheering at four football games, the competition team participates in five to six competitions throughout the fall season. During the school year, this squad practices three nights per week for two hours each session, focusing on stunts, choreography, and precision. Competition Cheer is a great fit for athletes ready for a higher level of commitment and the excitement of performing on a competitive stage.
Pre-Season Practices
Because there is very little time between the start of practices and the first game, our preseason schedule is intentionally condensed to ensure every team is fully prepared. Sideline and Competition squads will practice Monday through Thursday until the start of the school year.
We recognize that this is a lot in a short period, and it can feel demanding. However, these early practices are essential for building routines, learning material, and creating the teamwork needed for a successful season. Consistent attendance allows the girls—and their squads—to feel confident and ready when they step onto the field for the first time.
Organization‑Wide Activities
All cheer teams participate in our program‑wide events, including the Pep Rally, Homecoming Parade, Cheerfest, and Youth Night (optional). These shared experiences help build community, spirit, and connection across all squads.
